FROM ARCHITECT TO HEALTH COACH

MY NAME IS PÍA, I was born in Chile and lived in Perú for 13 years. I am an architect by profession and in 2022 I graduated as a Health Coach from IIN NY. I currently live in Abu Dhabi with my husband and son since 2014.

 

THE BEGINNING OF A CHALLENGING LIFE PATH

AT THE AGE OF 24, I faced a hypertensive crisis that affected and changed my quality of life. This was an alert that something was not right with my health. Since this episode it began a long road of challenges and learnings that would lead me to question my lifestyle and my overall health priorities.

 

 

THE IMPACT OF STRESS & DIET

AT AGE 35, I began to realize that my lifestyle and diet were not contributing to my well-being, but were negatively affecting it. The lack of emotional network, moving to another country away from my family and friends, was adding an extra layer of stress and anxiety that led me to lean towards unhealthy eating patterns with excess sugar and ultra-processed foods that gave me a brief sense of relief.

 

 

 

INTRO-DUCTION OF SMALL CHANGES & HABITS

IT WAS AT THAT MOMENT that I decided to take action. I then began to research on how to improve my lifestyle, focusing on real nutrition and mindful eating habits. I got curious about mindfulness and started my journey on psychotherapy to aid manage my emotions. Thus, I began to introduce small but very significant changes in my life, such as meditation, yoga and a more real and conscious way of eating.  

 

THE HARDEST LESSON:

A HEART ATTACK THAT WOKE ME UP

DESPITE MY MOTIVATION to improve the way I lived, life had an even deeper lesson in store for me. A few days before my 42nd birthday, I suffered a cardiovascular accident. This was a terrifying event, but at the same time it woke me up to what, somehow, I already knew: my body had been whispering something to me for years that became a warning alert through the heart attack.

 

DISCOVERIES

A YEAR AFTER THE HEART ATTACK, after a long diagnostic process, it was discovered that I suffer from a congenital condition that currently has no cure.

 

REVELATIONS

I UNDERSTOOD SOMETHING I hadn't realized before: for years I was normalizing how toxic it is to live in a chronic state of stress, without being aware of how it affected my body and mental health. It was a difficult revelation to assimilate, but also a moment of clarity and spiritual awakening. 

IN SEARCH OF A HOLISTIC APPROACH

AT THAT MOMENT that my congenital condition was revealed, I understood that, although medicine is an essential tool, the path to a healthy and vibrant life goes far beyond medical interventions. I needed to find a holistic approach, one that took into account not only the body, but also the mind, heart, and spirit.

TAKING CHARGE OF MY WELL-BEING

UNCERTAINTY, FEAR & ANXIETY accompanied me during those months after multiple medical consultations plus having to deal with the side effects of medications. I knew I had to look for a different pathway, one that would allow me to regain control over my well-being in the face of this health uncertainty. That's how it was time to take charge of my well-being, both physically and mentally.

 

 

HEALTH COACH -ING

AS A TOOL FOR HEALING

I DECIDE TO BECOME A HEALTH COACH to help me in the rehabilitation that I needed so much from my recent heart attack and a long history of chronic disease. At the same time, my true vocation to help others heal through a holistic approach was revealed.

 

 

THE POWER OF INTEGRATIVE NUTRITION & MINDFULNESS

DURING 2022 I fully conducted my self-rehabilitation while studying what I am most passionate about: human wellness. In November 2023 I graduated as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition of NY.

 

 

DURING MY PREPARATION as a Wellness Coach, I attended seminars, talks, virtual group coaching circles, 1:1 coaching practices, conducted multiple health story sessions, read books and researched about mindful nutrition, exploring holistic practices that allowed me to connect more deeply with myself. Somatic mindfulness practices gave me the tools I needed to manage post-traumatic stress, and I discovered a genuine passion for integrative nutrition as I watched my body and mind strengthen and transform favorably day by day.

 

 

THE COMPASSION-ATE RESILIENCE OF BODY-MIND

DURING MY STUDIES I discovered with pleasant surprise that our physical and mental body have a wonderful capacity and resilience to adapt, transform and heal when we give them the right environment and tools - eco system.

Throughout that year I noticed how my stress level began to lose its grip on me.

 

 

A WELL-BEING NEVER IMAGINED POSSIBLE

TODAY, I AM STILL in medical treatment supported by my integrative philosophy of health, which has allowed me to achieve a well-being that I never imagined possible.

 

 

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO START AGAIN

I FIRMLY BELIEVE that the vitality I feel today would not be possible with the intervention of conventional medicine alone. Despite everything I have experienced, and the challenges that still lie ahead, I feel mostly strong, balanced and full of gratitude for each day. I don't feel like a sick person, but someone resilient, with control over my body.
